Anxiety is a šÆšš«š² ššØš¦š¦šØš§ š¬š²š¦š©ššØš¦ in palliative care, and its severity is often underestimated by healthcare professionals. Anxiety can be measured using the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory-State scale, which is ššØšØ š„šØš§š ššØš« š¬šØš¦š š©ššš¢šš§šš¬ to complete, as well as šÆš¢š¬š®šš„ šš§šš„šØš š¬ššš„šš¬ (VASs) and š§š®š¦šš«š¢ššš„ š«ššš¢š§š š¬ššš„šš¬ (NRSs). The aim of this article was to study the ššØš«š«šš„ššš¢šØš§ šš¦šØš§š šš”šš¬š šš”š«šš ššØšØš„š¬ for measuring anxiety in patients hospitalized in palliative care.
Of the 186 patients who participated, 24% suffered from severe or very severe anxiety. The correlation between the ššš šš§š šš”š ššššš-šš«šš¢š šš§š±š¢ššš² šš§šÆšš§ššØš«š²-ššššš š¬ššš„š š°šš¬ š.šš, and that between the ššš šš§š šš”š ššššš-šš«šš¢š šš§š±š¢ššš² šš§šÆšš§ššØš«š²-ššššš š¬ššš„š š°šš¬ š.šš. Thresholds were determined for the ššššššš¢šØš§ šØš š¬ššÆšš«š/šÆšš«š² š¬ššÆšš«š šš§š±š¢ššš²: 5 for the NRS (sensitivity: 89.5% and specificity: 60.1%) and 49 mm for the VAS (sensitivity: 89.2% and specificity: 70.3%).
As the Všš šš§š šš”š ššš ššØš«š«šš„ššš š°šš„š„ š°š¢šš” šš”š š«šššš«šš§šš š¬ššš„š (State-Trait Anxiety Inventory-State scale), they are a good first-line solution for detecting patients with severe or very severe anxiety.
