Congratulations to Dr. Nyangoh Timoh and her colleagues on the publication of their article on bullying and burnout in obstetrics and gynecology residencies in France in the Journal of Gynecology Obstetrics and Human Reproduction. We are delighted to have been able to contribute to the success of this article!

Burnout is a 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐨𝐧 𝐩𝐡𝐞𝐧𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐨𝐧 among medical residents. Certain medical specialties are particularly affected, such as 𝐠𝐲𝐧𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐨𝐛𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐬, where bullying is also on the rise. The authors studied the 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐯𝐚𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐛𝐮𝐥𝐥𝐲𝐢𝐧𝐠 among obstetrics and gynecology residents, the link between bullying and burnout, and the 𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐤 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐟𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐬 for burnout.

This national study analyzed the responses to several questionnaires from 625 people. 𝐌𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐧 𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐟 reported bullying, and 18.4% had the symptoms necessary for a 𝐝𝐢𝐚𝐠𝐧𝐨𝐬𝐢𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐛𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐨𝐮𝐭. A 𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 was found between workplace bullying and burnout. 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐬𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 was a protective factor, while frequent bullying, excessive working hours, and high stress were risk factors.

These data are important because they justify the implementation of institutional strategies to 𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐞 𝐰𝐞𝐥𝐥-𝐛𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐚 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐟𝐮𝐥 𝐞𝐧𝐯𝐢𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 for medical residents. The article is available on the journal's website! Doi: 𝟏𝟎.𝟏𝟎𝟏𝟔/𝐣.𝐣𝐨𝐠𝐨𝐡.𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟓.𝟏𝟎𝟑𝟎𝟑𝟒.
