𝐇𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐦𝐲 is one of the 𝐦𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐨𝐧 𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐠𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐜𝐞𝐝𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐬 worldwide. It can be performed in several ways: abdominally, vaginally, or laparoscopically. There are many indications for this 𝐭𝐲𝐩𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐫𝐲, ranging from the treatment of 𝐛𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐠𝐧 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 after conservative treatments have failed, to 𝐜𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐚 𝐩𝐞𝐥𝐯𝐢𝐜 𝐠𝐲𝐧𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐨𝐫𝐠𝐚𝐧. There is 𝐧𝐨 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐥 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐢𝐳𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 in the procedure for robot-assisted laparoscopic total hysterectomy.
This 𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐨𝐟 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐜𝐞𝐝𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐬 can lead to 𝐯𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 in results and 𝐥𝐢𝐦𝐢𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐢𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 of studies. The authors therefore used the 𝐃𝐞𝐥𝐩𝐡𝐢 𝐦𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐝, which is used to establish consensus among experts in a 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐢𝐳𝐞𝐝 𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐫, to establish a consensus surgical process model for this surgical technique. A total of 35 experts from 10 countries participated in this Delphi study. The final surgical process model comprised 𝐬𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧 𝐩𝐡𝐚𝐬𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝟑𝟒 𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜 𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐠𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐩𝐬.
Studies applying this surgical process model are needed to validate it in the clinical setting. The study is available on the journal's website. Doi: 𝟏𝟎.𝟏𝟎𝟎𝟕/𝐬𝟎𝟎𝟒𝟔𝟒-𝟎𝟐𝟓-𝟏𝟐𝟑𝟑𝟗-𝟑.
