Cramps: Don’t Panic!

27/03/2018

Cramps are very sharp and painful muscle contractions; their onset is sudden and unexpected. They especially affect the calves, but can occur in any muscle, such as in the back or the neck.

There are many causes for cramps. One of the key underlying factors of cramps is poor blood flow to the muscles, particularly when they occur upon physical effort, e.g. cramps of soccer players.
In people who are engaging in physical activity, cramps may be associated with a lack of salt after excessive perspiration. With regard to night cramps, these are often caused by several factors, including poor circulation, fatigue, stress, etc.
Be aware that arnica compresses may prove to be very useful! Arnica stimulates circulation while offering anti-inflammatory properties. However, watch out! Don’t apply arnica to open wounds.
