Full moon effects

Do you experience sleep disturbances during the full moon? What are the effects of the moon on our body?

A scientific study from the University of Basel showed that 33 volunteers experienced an increase in fatigue during the 4 days before and after the full moon. Not only did the participants take 20 minutes longer to fall asleep, but their deep sleep was also reduced by 30%. This phase is fundamental since many crucial biological processes such as memorization, growth hormone secretion, and cell regeneration take place.

Is it true that we sleep less well during the nights of the full moon? A German study carried out on 1,400 adolescents could not show a correlation between sleep and the lunar cycle. Some people are certainly more sensitive than others to the full moon since they also complained about effects on migraines, appetite, menstruation or more frequently on mood swings.

The expressions "lunatics" derived from the Latin word luna which is the goddess of the moon in Greek mythology, and "mal-luné" (in French) could be used to characterize the mood swing of some people during the full moon. However, a study carried out by the Swiss and the Americans was not able to demonstrate an increase in aggressiveness during the phase of the full moon. It seems that we are not all receptive to the fascinating effects of the moon on our bodies.
