How can you prevent kidney stones forming?

16/01/2018

Your kidney function can be disrupted by the buildup of certain substances which can end up forming kidney stones. This is called ulcerative colitis or urolithiasis and is often extremely painful.

The risk of developing colitis is increased if you do not drink enough water and have a diet that is too heavy in protein and calcium. Luckily, there are simple nutritional guidelines those predisposed to kidney conditions can follow to reduce their risk:

1) Drink a lot, and often – at least 1.5 litres day, to prevent the urine from becoming concentrated and encourage the elimination of small stones before they become too big.

2) Eat a lot of fruit and vegetables and avoid offal, seafood, rhubarb, and white wine. These products have the terrible habit of encouraging these problems.

3) Avoid caffeine, very spicy food, and condiments. These products irritate the bladder and urinary tract, potentially aggravating any problems.
