Sleep apnea

09/11/2017

Although we have known about nocturnal respiratory disorders since antiquity, it is only since relatively recently, 1976, that sleep apnea has been considered a distinct clinical entity.

Sleep apnea is a disorder in which the airways are repeatedly obstructed during sleep, leading to respiratory pauses. Over time, these nocturnal apneas can affect quality of life, causing daytime sleepiness, hypersomnolence, and difficulty concentrating.
