Watch out for ticks

30/08/2018

Ticks are out in force every April to October wherever there’s humid or wooded countryside, and are a growing problem. Let’s look at the facts.

As soon as the summer weather rolls in, outfits get skimpier and people can’t wait to get out into the countryside. Still, be aware that ticks are also out for the nice weather, and just one bite can have some serious consequences.

Ticks are notorious for transmitting a disease that is even more underestimated in prevalence, with potentially severe results: Lyme disease. This pathology can cause a whole laundry list of problems like fatigue, joint pain and even paralysis. Not all ticks carry it, and not everyone reacts the same to tick bites, but to avoid potentially serious illness you should protect yourself.

To do so, there are tick repellents you can spray on. It’s also a good idea to wear clothing that covers your legs and inspect yourself all over after each walk outside, while in the shower for example. Check every nook and cranny in order catch any ticks in time. And if you do find one, don’t panic, just extract it carefully with a special tick fork.
