What’s the latest on organic food?

In order for a product to officially carry the label “organic”, there are certain rules it must follow. Cereals, vegetables, and fruit have to originate from non-genetically-modified crops. They must have been cultivated free of any pesticides or chemical fertilizer.

For these crops, organic farmers use specific methods, such as crop rotation, using manure as fertilizer, adapting to the seasons, and so on. For products of animal origin, such as meat or eggs, the use of growth hormones and antibiotics is restricted, and the animals must be kept in a spacious environment.
The greatest advantage to organic products consists in the absence of toxic substances, such as pesticides or chemical fertilizer. In terms of taste, some say organic food tastes better, while others notice no particular difference, so it’s purely subjective.
