Have Some Curcuma to Prevent Cognitive Decline

Between now and the year 2020, one out of every four French person who has lived beyond age 65 will be affected by Alzheimer’s disease. And to date, no treatment is available for curing the disease. While awaiting the discovery of an effective remedy, some very valuable help could come to us from plants.

And particularly from curcuma, a spice that is symbolic of Indian cooking. Until now, scientists have been interested mostly in the anticancer properties of this spice. But recent studies conducted in Canada have revealed that curcumin, the principal pigment of curcuma, has been able to prevent the formation of amyloid plaques.
Even if the disease’s pathogenic mechanism is still not solved, these amyloid plaques seem to play a leading role in this mechanism. Curcuma may explain why India is one of the regions in the world that is least affected by Alzheimer’s disease.
